Data Reflects Source Release Cycles

The current comparable state series ends at FY2022. The official ACF workbook reports 368,530 children in care on September 30, 2022, in its national aggregate, which includes Puerto Rico; PlainFoster's public state directory covers the 50 states plus D.C. Records can lag later releases, be revised, or contain state-submission limitations. Our methodology explains each active source and calculation. Always confirm consequential information with the primary source.
