Data Reflects Source Release Cycles
According to the federal AFCARS report and American Community Survey child-population estimates, 379,475 children were in foster care across the 51 states we cover, with per-capita entry rates ranging from 2.1 per 1,000 children in Utah to 16.2 in West Virginia; our methodology explains how every figure is sourced and computed. Records on PlainFoster reflect the most recent source data we have processed and can lag an official release. Values can change after we ingest a record, and source data may contain errors or be incomplete. Always confirm the current information directly with the primary source before acting.
